Introduction to Finite Element Analysis with Autodesk
Simulation Mechanical
Course Code: ...................FEA-1
Software Version: ............Latest
System: .............................Windows
Course Description
Introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is an instructor led
training course which covers the basics of Finite Element Modeling (FEM) and linear stress
analysis with Autodesk Simulation Mechanical (updated Algor FEA) software. Topics covered include: what is FEA, why use FEA,
hardware requirements, FEA overview, types of analysis that can be performed, model data
input methods, CAD system database interface, element types, graphics pre and
postprocessors, mesh generators, failure criteria, as well as covering the basic steps required for successful FEA. Course
participants will work on developing 2D and 3D models, defining multiple material
properties, defining and applying boundary conditions, and using symmetry where
applicable.
Participant Materials
Approximately 50 pages of desktop published notes.
Duration of Training
3 Days, 9:00 to 4:00 (course times may vary)
Course Prerequisites
An Engineering or stress / thermal analysis background is required.
Students are assumed to have little or no FEA experience. Basic OS and PC familiarity is
assumed.
Terminal Objectives
The goal of this course is to quickly move students up the learning curve
to the point where they have a basic working knowledge of using Autodesk
Simulation Mechanical for FEA. Basic FEM
and linear stress analysis applications will be covered in this course.
Course Structure
Lecture, discussion, demonstration, hands on practice with specific
commands, followed by relevant model building exercises. Approximately 50% of class time
will be spent on hands-on development.
